My name is Scott Pennington. I am originally from Florida and moved to Atlanta during my previous career working for a Fortune 500 company. Since friends and family always came to me for comfort and advise over the years, I finally decided to go back to school and pursue a degree that would allow me to help people by making a difference in their lives. My BS in Psychology and my Master’s in Professional Counseling were earned at Liberty University.
Practicing in the field of Psychology for almost 10 years, I have stayed in tune with the latest research and techniques. My extensive experience includes private practice with offices in West Cobb and East Cobb, as well as institutional care where I served as Case Manager for Ridgeview Institute in Smyrna, GA.
I undergo regular training to keep up with current techniques:
- Certified as a Prepare-Enrich and Level 2 Gottman Therapist, I assess couples’ relationships and define their strengths and areas of improvement.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) certified, I help realign one’s behavior with the individual’s core beliefs to reduce internal conflict or stress.
- I am also well versed in the Aggressive Replacement Therapy (ART) techniques.
I enjoy using those various techniques to teach my clients to better manage stress, anxiety, depression, anger, abuse, and addictions. I am also now a teacher for counselors seeking the Prepare-Enrich certification and an official supervisor for new counselors not yet fully licensed.
Rogerian at heart, I follow his theory based on:
- Optimistic view of humanity
- Every individual has value
- Non-judgmental environment
- Genuineness
- Unconditional positive regard
I offer services to individuals, couples, families, teenagers, and children over 11 years old.

"Scott came highly recommended to me by my son’s therapist, as well as from a close friend. I first reached out to him for couple’s therapy. No doubt he is top-notch in counseling within that arena of life. However I additionally decided to see him for individual therapy, as well. I feel very confident in the knowledge I gain from the sessions we have. So much so, I have referred several friends to him & they have all thoroughly loved him. Sometimes when you are in a difficult situation it is hard to know exactly who to talk to about it. Scott is most definitely a great source of guidance in those really hard situations & even in all the smaller bumps of life that sometimes create hurdles, too! If you need a good therapist, you’re in for a treat! Because Scott is awesome!!!"
"Scott has been counseling me and my family for several years now. He has personally helped me overcome my depression and anxiety, and gain perspective on my life. I recommend him to anyone looking for some guidance and help dealing with mental struggles."
"I have been seeing Scott for 5 years. I had several major events in my life that lead me to see Scott initially. My want was to find the best and healthiest way to cope with the hardships in my life, and he did just that. I don't open up to people easily, and I struggle to talk about myself and the problems I encounter. Scott has a way of making you feel comfortable and safe. I feel like I'm talking to a bestfriend and not a counselor. The personal growth I have achieved, thanks to Scott, is the reason why I am healthy and living a much happier life!"
"Productive, evidence and research- based solutions in a warm, safe and friendly environment. Great rapport; I highly recommend Scott Pennington for family or individual counseling related to familial events. Counseling can allow one to speak freely and gives an opportunity to find ones own solutions by safely looking into issues from a different perspective (guided) using practical and reliable tools for adapting skill sets that promote self growth and understanding."
"Scott is an amazing counselor! He is supportive, affirming and knowledgeable, and has always been really great at listening to my challenges and providing well-informed insight and feedback to help me overcome them. He has been super accessible and available for video chats when I’ve been out of town or can’t make it to the office, which has been really convenient. He has a genuine passion for helping people and it shows - I feel very fortunate to be working with Scott!"
"I came to Scott on the recommendation of another counselor. At the time, I was also looking for a Gottman certified marriage therapist that could help me “fix” my marriage when my partner had given up. I left my previous counselor because she was very passive and didn’t ask much of me. At the time, my anxiety was at its highest and I had lost hope. I was almost at rock bottom. After my first session with Scott, I knew he could help. Scott is not only a great listener, but he is also very supportive. He nudges me out of my comfort zone by asking me very thought-provoking questions. I told him I didn’t want any sugar-coating if I’m going to better myself, and he agreed. What Scott has helped me to understand is my feelings are valid, and I am worthy of better (among other things). If you are looking for an amazing and effective counselor, Scott is your guy. I’ve recommended him to many others because I know he can help them - just as he has helped me."
"Scott Pennington has worked with my husband and I, through couples counseling and myself through individual counseling. As an active listener, Scott hears you and helps you identify the real feelings and intentions of yourself and your loved ones. He has helped me transform into a much more confident and loving woman, wife and mother. And my marriage is better than I could have ever expected. I’m thankful for Scott’s patience, ability to read through anything and his flexible schedule. I highly recommend Scott."

Scott is passionate about helping his community and he participates in public events where he shares his expertise on various mental health subjects.
This particular event was about the increase of anxiety disorders among teenagers.
