INSURANCE:

IS MRC AN IN NETWORK PROVIDER?

MRC currently operates as an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies. However, many reasons or conditions why you might consider therapy or coaching are not covered by insurances. If your insurance plan includes out-of-network (OON) benefits, you may qualify for partial reimbursement for therapy services. Because insurance plans vary, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to better understand your out-of-network coverage.

Consider asking the following questions:

  • Does my plan include out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • Does my plan cover my reason for seeking therapy?
  • Which diagnosis or billing codes does my plan cover?
  • How many sessions does my plan cover?
  • Do I need pre-authorization or a referral?
  • What percentage of the session fee will my insurance reimburse?

If you have out-of-network benefits, your therapist at MRC can provide a monthly superbill upon request. A superbill is an itemized receipt of services
that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Please note:

  • You are responsible for full payment at the time of each session.
  • Your insurance company will send any approved reimbursements directly to you.
  • Master’s-level therapists cannot provide superbills.

WHY IS MRC OUT OF NETWORK?

Like many private therapy practices, MRC chooses not to contract directly with insurance companies. Many clients also choose not to use insurance
benefits for therapy services.

Below are several important factors to consider:

Privacy & Confidentiality Concerns

Insurance companies often require therapists to submit detailed clinical information before approving or continuing coverage.

This information may include:

  • Mental health diagnoses
  • Treatment plans
  • Session summaries or notes
  • Personal or family history
  • Substance use history

Insurance companies may add this information to your permanent health record.

A Diagnosis May Be Required

Many people seek therapy for personal growth, stress management, relationship concerns, life transitions, or support during difficult periods.
These concerns do not always involve a mental health diagnosis.

However, most insurance companies require a diagnosable mental health condition before they will cover therapy services.

More Flexibility in Treatment

Insurance companies may restrict the number of sessions, type of treatment, or length of care they consider medically necessary. By remaining
out of network, our clinicians can tailor treatment to your individual needs instead of following insurance company requirements. This flexibility allows us to provide care that reflects your specific goals, circumstances, and needs.

Long-Term Considerations

Some clients prefer not to share mental health information with insurance providers because they worry about future privacy implications. Although laws protect health information, some individuals choose to limit what insurance records include. Mental health records could affect future applications for certain types of insurance, including health or life insurance, and may influence eligibility for some careers. Families may want to consider these factors carefully when seeking services for children, teens, or young adults.

We understand that navigating insurance can feel overwhelming, and we are happy to help answer general questions about the process. If you would like more information, please contact MRC at (678) 691-8130.
